Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Public Predictions collects, why, and what rights you have. It applies to the website at publicpredictions.markets (the "Service").

1. Who is responsible

2. What we collect

Account data. Your email address and, if you use Sign in with X, your X account identifier, username, display name, and profile picture. We ask X for your confirmed email address so that signing in by X and by email lands in the same account. We request nothing beyond that and never post to X on your behalf.

Your contributions. Quotes you clip, claims and verdicts you propose, contests, upvotes, follows, and replies, together with the time you made them. Contributions are public and shown with your handle.

Session and log data. IP address, browser type, and technical logs needed to run and secure the Service, including to enforce rate limits.

Data about public figures. The Service records public statements by public figures, the source they were made in, and our judgment of them. This is editorial processing of information that is already public, carried out in the public interest. If you are a named forecaster, see section 7.

We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics, and we set only the cookies needed to keep you signed in.

3. How we use your data and our legal bases

Provide your account and the Service (sign-in, showing your contributions): performance of a contract.
Send sign-in links by email: performance of a contract. Sign-in links are the only email we send.
Keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and debug: legitimate interests.
Publish and archive public predictions and verdicts: legitimate interests in journalism and public accountability.
Comply with legal obligations: legal obligation.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Where your data is processed

The Service runs entirely on Cloudflare (database, file storage, email delivery, and the AI models that help editors summarise sources). Cloudflare processes data on our behalf under its data processing terms, with EU transfer safeguards where data leaves the EEA. Sign in with X is provided by X Corp. under X's own privacy policy.

We use AI models only on public source text, such as a clipped article, to draft claims and evidence summaries for editors. We do not feed your account data to AI models.

5. How long we keep it

Account data: for as long as your account exists, then deleted within 30 days of a deletion request.
Contributions: for as long as they are part of the public record. A deleted account's public contributions are kept but shown without your handle where they form part of a published verdict's evidence.
Session and log data: sessions expire automatically; technical logs are kept for a short period, typically under 30 days.
Source and evidence snapshots: for as long as the related prediction is published, so verdicts stay checkable.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to restrict or object to our processing, and you can withdraw consent where processing is based on it. Email privacy@publicpredictions.markets and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet, datatilsynet.dk) or your local supervisory authority.

7. If you are a named forecaster

We publish your public statements and our judgment of them. You have the right to object; because this is editorial processing in the public interest, we balance your objection against that interest rather than removing content automatically. You can request a correction, contest a verdict through the Service, or send a reply that we publish alongside the verdict. Contact us at the email above.

8. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date tells you which version you are reading; material changes will be announced on the Service.
